Schedule a Pickup

Explains which carriers support scheduling pickups in ShipStation and how to schedule and cancel pickups in the ShipStation app.

ShipStation includes the ability to schedule a pickup for shipments that use certain carriers.

At this time, you can schedule pickups in ShipStation for the following carriers:

  • USPS

  • DHL Express

  • DHL Express from ShipStation

  • FedEx

  • UPS from ShipStation

Once requested, you can also view, cancel, and resubmit the request directly in ShipStation.

Scheduling Pickups for Other Carriers

If you wish to schedule a pickup for shipments using other carriers, you must do so using the carriers' specified method.

Schedule a Carrier Pickup

The Carrier Pickups page in ShipStation allows you to schedule a pickup from supported carriers. Any shipment for that carrier with a ship date that matches the pickup date will be included in the pickup.

  • Free USPS pickups are available when shipping USPS from ShipStation or shipping with a connected Stamps.com account. Pickups occur the following shipping day (Monday through Saturday).

    • Certain USPS Post Office locations do not support Saturday pickup, so a pickup request placed on Friday would be scheduled for Monday with these locations. Please contact your local Post Office to confirm their pickup schedule.

  • The DHL Express pickup option is available for either DHL Express from ShipStation or individual DHL Express accounts.

  • The UPS pickup option is only available for UPS from ShipStation shipments.

  • FedEx is available for FedEx Ground and FedEx Express shipments. FedEx Ground can be scheduled for the next business day or any business day up to 2 weeks in advance. FedEx Express can be scheduled for the current or next business day.

All pickup options rely on the time zone set in the selected Ship From Location. If you have not set a time zone in your Ship From Locations, you may get an error when attempting to schedule a pickup in ShipStation.

Pickup Fees May Apply

If the Carrier charges a fee for pickups that bill is separate from any label fees and will post to your ShipStation balance as an individual transaction.

  • UPS from ShipStation: A pickup scheduled for UPS from ShipStation packages will incur a fee, which varies depending on pickup type and day. The fee is deducted from your ShipStation balance.

  • DHL Express from ShipStation pickups are free.

  • If you ship via a private DHL Express account, you may incur a pickup fee when scheduling pickups in ShipStation.

  • FedEx may apply surcharges to pickups from residential locations or locations not associated with your FedEx account.

Using the Manual USPS Pickup Option

US-based accounts have an additional pickup option, specifically for USPS shipments. The Manual USPS Pickup option allows you to specify the number of shipments for a certain service, how much the total pickup will weigh, where the pickup should occur, and any other special instructions. This option does not require the shipment to have the same ship date as the pickup, which makes it a good option if a shipment was missed in a prior pickup.

For most scheduled pickups, you should use the Standard Pickups option, but if you have USPS shipments to pickup that are not covered by the standard option (for example, the ship date doesn't match the pickup date), use the manual pickup option instead.

Each Ship From Location in your account will have a tab on this page. Go to the tab for the Ship From Location you need a pickup for. Fill in the number of shipments for each service class, the total weight, and any special instructions.

When you are done, click Request pickup.
