Inventory Locations are a way to show the specific location of a product within your Inventory Warehouse. This will display two different ways within your Product Detail's Inventory tab — They'll either show specific Area, Unit, Shelf, and Bin values (for example, L7-D12-UB40) or it will show (Unspecified).
Unspecified just means "in the warehouse." It is not an error, and inventory locations are not required. It simply means that you don't yet have/need to get specific for where inventory is being housed within a warehouse.
But, if your warehouse is broken down into aisles, rows, and bins, and your warehouse locations look like B-52, etc. then this article explains how to display this within ShipStation.
Note: If you have a lot of SKUs and possible inventory locations, using the Inventory CSV import method will save you time and clicks, since you can assign the Inventory Locations in the CSV, and ShipStation will automatically create them during the import process.
To manually add your Inventory Locations to your Inventory Warehouse:
Head to your Account Settings (the wrench icon in the upper right).
Next, select Inventory Management and then Inventory Warehouses from the sidebar on the left.
Click on the Manage Locations link for an existing Inventory Warehouse.
In the top right of this new window, there’s a Warehouse Layout section that lets you choose up to 4 dimensions. You can use any combination of the following: Area, Unit, Shelf, and Bin.
Eventually, this window will list all possible Inventory Locations for that warehouse. The columns on that list will adjust based on the layout you selected.
Next, click Add Location.
Simply enter the location information and Save.
Repeat this manual process for any locations you need to add. And remember, you have the alternative of specifying locations during a CSV stock import!
Here is how your products with inventory will appear on your Products > Inventory page:
Multiple means there are multiple Locations assigned to that product. Click the Disclosure Triangle to reveal where they are!
