Natural Language Process (or NLP, for short) is a new feature that allows you to enter a customer's shipping information in a text format and ShipStation will extract the appropriate shipping information and put it in desired fields.
NLP uses machine learning to parse your information. The more addresses it searches, the more efficient it gets at quickly pulling information to the appropriate field! Let's give you some examples.
Use Case #1: Copy-and-Paste
Let's say you receive an order via email. And your customer enters their information as text, you can simply copy and paste the information and it will parse into the appropriate fields:
4oz 5x10x10in 3800 North Lamar, suite 200 austin, tx 78652 Margie McMiller USPS first class $201 value shipsurance
In this example, the user can simply copy-and-paste the contents of the email directly into the NLP field. No need to manually type anything into a Word document. In fact, no need to type anything at all!
Use Case #2: Quick Entry
If you get an order over the phone, you can type directly into the NLP input field and the information will populate to the appropriate fields.
How to Use the NLP Feature
The information that NLP parses into the appropriate fields is:
- Recipient Name
- Postal Code
- Carrier Service
- Carrier Package Type
