ShipStation can print directly to any thermal or regular desktop printer configured on your printer workstation(s) using ShipStation Connect.
ShipStation Connect is a downloadable program (for Windows and Mac) that runs continuously in the background of your printer workstation. It connects your local USB printer and scale to the ShipStation web app, which can then share those devices with other users on your ShipStation account.
Printing via ShipStation Connect involves the following processes:
- Connecting and configuring your printer on your printer workstation
- Installing and logging into ShipStation Connect on your printer workstation*
- Selecting the "Print via ShipStation Connect" option when printing a document
*Your "printer workstation" is the computer your printer is physically connected to via USB
Connect & Configure Your Printer
The first step is to configure your printer on your printer workstation. Each printer setup is a bit different. For help configuring your specific thermal printer, click the article below that matches your specific printer:
If you do not use a thermal printer, but rather a typical 8.5x11 inkjet or laser printer, follow the instructions provided with your printer to configure it normally in the OS you use (Mac OS or Windows).

Once you can successfully print a test document to your printer, move on to the next step.
Install ShipStation Connect
ShipStation Connect needs to be installed only on the printer workstation! Do not install Connect on computers you do not wish to print ShipStation documents from.
Select the article below for instructions on installing and signing into Connect for the OS on your printer workstation:
Once Connect has been installed and logged into, you will be able to start printing labels and other documents. However, make sure ShipStation is configured to print them in the correct format by checking the Document Options in Settings > Printing > Printing Setup!
For accounts with multiple users
If you would like all of your ShipStation account users to be able to print to your printer workstation, you'll also need to share the printer(s) in the Connect settings window in ShipStation's Settings.
In the ShipStation app, make sure you are logged in using the same username and password you used for ShipStation Connect so you can manage the device settings.
Then, go to Settings > Printing > ShipStation Connect, and click the Shared button beside the printer you want to share with other users. Once shared, this printer will be available for other users to print to, no matter what computer they are logged into, or where they are located!
*To access these options, you must be logged in to the ShipStation web app with the same username and password you used to login to ShipStation Connect on your printer workstation.
(For more information on printing from a workstation to a shared printer on your ShipStation account, check out this article.)
Print from the ShipStation Web App
Finally, when you're ready to print a document in ShipStation, a label for example, choose Print via ShipStation Connect from the Print popup (this window appears after you click Create Label or choose Print from the action menus) and select the printer you wish to print to from the list:
You can also choose a default method of printing in Settings > Printing > Printing Setup that will save for your current user and browser, and will skip the above popup. If you ever want to override this and print via a different method at any time, you can click and hold the print button to force the popup to appear again.
ShipStation's mobile app is a streamlined version of our web app that allows you to use our most essential features on the go! For example, say you make a sale at a convention and are sending the label to the crew back at the warehouse...
Get your smartphone out and create a label for an order in the ShipStation Mobile app.
Once your label is generated, a printing prompt will appear. Select the option you wish to use:
If you choose ShipStation Connect, select the printer you want to print to, and the ShipStation will send the label there!
(Make sure you've configured ShipStation Connect to print to another workstation so your printers will appear on the list, as shown below.)
And that's it! Connect will receive the label and send it to the selected printer!
