How do I setup a Zebra thermal printer on Windows?

To install a Zebra thermal printer (such as the Zebra GC420d) on your Windows machine, simply follow the instructions below. If you're installing the printer on your Mac, please read this article.

For Zebra printers, we recommend the Seagull Scientific driver. You can download this driver here. When installing the driver, make sure your printer is not connected to your computer.

Once you install the driver, plug the computer back in. Your computer will now automatically match this printer to the downloaded driver.

Now you'll need to configure the print settings to make sure that your labels will print out correctly.

Head to the View Devices & Printers section of your computer's Control Panel. Here is an article to help locate your computer's Control Panel.

Here's a screen cap to explain which settings need to configured for your Zebra to best work with ShipStation (There will also be a step-by-step guide underneath).

Right-click on the desired printer, and click Printing Preferences.

On the Page Setup tab, check that your Stock Name (paper size) is set to 4.00" x 6.00".

Head to the Graphics tab now and set Dithering to None. Also, 203 dpi is the recommended Resolution as this is typically the max resolution that carriers support.

Lastly, head to the Options tab. Click Absolute in the Darkness settings and slide the darkness to 13. This is the recommended darkness, but you may find that certain OS's, carriers or printer models need this adjusted.

Click Apply and Ok, and your printer is ready to print!
