Where does the suggested purchase amount for Stamps.com postage come from?

(This article refers to a feature that will eventually roll out to all users.)

When your Stamps.com postage balance runs low while you're shipping, ShipStation recommends a one-time purchase amount so that you can add additional funds and continue creating shipping labels.

By default, the suggested reload amount will be greatest of these three values:

  • The Stamps.com minimum amount of $10
  • The amount needed to cover the postage cost
  • The amount of postage purchased with that Stamps.com account from the previous 7 days (not including the current day) rounded to the nearest $25 with a $500 maximum.

We recommend purchasing a week's worth of postage so that you only have to think about this once a week, and so that you don't have to deal with cluttered credit card statements. It's cool if you want to make a one-time purchase that's greater or less than the suggested amount-- simply edit the amount and continue shipping.

If the default behavior isn't for you, you've got options!

Head to your Account Settings (the gear icon in the upper right).

Next, select Shipping and then Carriers & Fulfillment from the sidebar on the left.

Then, click on Purchase Postage for the appropriate Stamps.com account. You'll see a window like the one below.

Click the Advanced sub-tab in this window, where you'll have two options. Either modify the number of days that factor into the usage-based option, or pick the second option and set a default amount.

When you're done, click Save Advanced Settings.

Tired of making one-time purchases altogether? Set up auto-funding for your Stamps.com account.
