To configure shipping for an order, you'll use the Configure Shipment Widget, which allows you to set the shipping service, package type, weight, dimensions, insurance, confirmation, and other options.
Access the Configure Shipment Widget in either the Orders Grid drawer, or in the Order Details screen.
To access the Orders Grid drawer, click the View menu and choose Show Drawer.
To access the Order Details screen, either click an order number or double-click the order in the grid.
You can configure shipping in the following ways:
For multiple orders at once (called bulk updating)
Automation is covered in depth in the Advanced Feature section of this help guide. Review the Automation articles for details on how to configure shipping using product defaults, service mapping, and automation rules.
To configure shipping for an individual order:
Go to the Configure Shipment Widget (either in the drawer or the Order Details screen).
Select your Ship From location, if different from the default location.
Enter the shipment weight.
If you are using a scale via ShipStation Connect, click the weight button once the shipment is placed on the scale.
Select the desired service from the Shipping Service drop-down menu.
Services will be grouped by postage provider account.
Select the desired package type from the Package drop-down menu.
Packages will be grouped by carrier. Any custom package types you have created will appear first in the list.
Set your package dimensions, if necessary.
Not all services require package dimensions, however, any service that uses dimensional weight must have dimensions to return an accurate rate.
Add Insurance and Delivery Confirmation options, if needed.
Add other options (like Saturday Delivery or Third-party Billing), if needed.

The rate for the shipment will appear in the Create + Print Label button. The rate automatically updates as you configure your shipment.
Once you have configured all necessary options, you are ready to create and print your label.
Bulk updating can be done in either the drawer or by using the Update drop-down menu.
To configure shipping for multiple orders in bulk, do the following:
Select the orders you wish to update in the Orders Grid.
Select the options you wish to update in the drawer.
If the drawer is not visible, click View > Show Drawer.
Click Update Orders.
The Update menu offers more options than the bulk update in the drawer, including adding and removing tags, adding notes, setting a Ship By Date, and changing email and packing slip templates.
Shipping presets allow you to set various shipping configurations in advance and apply them quickly through the Presets menu or by using Hotkeys.
A preset can contain the following settings:
Ship From Location
Size (package dimensions)
Set as few or as many as you need in each preset, and assign a Hotkey combination to each preset if desired.
To add shipping presets, you'll use the Other Actions menu in the Orders tab.
Click Other Actions and choose Manage Presets.
Click New Preset in the Manage Presets pop-up screen.
Type in a preset name.
Set a Hotkey combination from the Hotkey drop-down (optional).
If you assign Hotkeys to your presets, you can print the Hotkeys as barcodes to use in a barcode scanning workflow. Just click Print Hotkeys and Barcodes in the Manage Presets screen to print the barcode sheet.
Click Add Shipping Options and choose which settings you want to add to this preset.
Click Save Preset once you have added all the options you need for this preset.
To edit or delete your existing presets, simply click either the Edit or Delete options in the Manage Presets pop-up screen.
You can manually apply a shipping preset individually or in bulk.
Individual Orders and Shipments
ShipStation will apply all the settings from the preset to the Configure Shipment Widget and automatically return a rate when possible.
Bulk Orders and Shipments
Select the orders you wish to apply the preset to in the Orders grid.
You then have two options:
Either, click Update and then choose Apply Shipping Preset:
Or, Choose Apply Preset from the drawer.:
Select the preset you wish to apply.
Click either Update Selection or Apply Preset.
ShipStation will apply the preset settings to the orders and automatically return rates when possible.
If you use a barcode scanner in your shipping workflow, try printing your preset Hotkeys as barcodes. This allows you to scan the barcode instead of using your keyboard to apply presets more quickly.
Hotkeys: If you have assigned a hotkey to a preset, you can use the hotkey to apply presets either individually or in bulk.
You cannot currently use automation to apply presets.
