How to create a Package Level Detail Report with a shipment export.
You can create a Package Level Detail (PLD) report using ShipStation's custom export reports.
Carriers can use your PLD to analyze how you ship and then determine which services best suit your business needs and help you develop a strategy to save on postage rates.
A PLD typically includes the following fields:
Destination Postal Code
Origin Postal Code
Current service levels
Length, Width, Height
ShipStation's shipment export relies on the columns that are active in the selected view. Currently, there are no columns for billed weight (only shipment weight), origin postal code, or shipment dimensions. The following instructions will guide you through how to configure a custom view with the available fields, export the report, and modify the CSV with any additional details you need.
There are two ways to create a PLD in ShipStation. In the first example below, you'll create a custom view in your Shipments tab with only the Ship Date and the columns you need for your PLD. You'll then use the Export Shipments option to generate the CSV file and add any other information you need to the file. With this method, you will need to add some data to the resulting CSV file.
With the alternative method, you'll export a Raw Data Export from your
Insights > Reports page. With this method, you will need to remove several columns from the resulting CSV before providing it to your carrier for analysis.
Click the Ship Date filter and select the date range for the shipments you wish to export.
Add a Ship From Location filter, if you have multiple ship from locations with different postal codes.
Click the Click to Save option in the Custom View tab to save this new view.
Name it PLD and click Save View.
Click the Columns button.
Select the following columns only (all other columns should be unchecked):
Weight exports in the units used by your ShipStation account.
Drag and drop the columns into the sequence you prefer.
Click the Export Shipments button.
Do not change the default selections in the Export Shipments pop-up screen.
ShipStation will download the report CSV file to your browser's default download location.
Open the CSV file.
Add column headers for Origin Post Code (if needed), as well as length, width, and height.
Enter the necessary values into the fields for each new column and save your changes.
Once your report has been exported, you can delete the saved view at any time or keep it if you plan to export any additional PLD reports.
If you are using ShipStation V3, you may want to try this alternate method.
Insights > Reports > Raw Data > Exports > Shipped Orders.
Set your Date Range and select the store, if needed (leaving the Store field blank tells ShipStation to run the report for shipments from all stores).
Choose Export to Excel.
Open the resulting CSV file and delete all columns except for the following:
Ship Postal Code
Save your CSV file.
