Set Up Billing for ShipStation Carrier Services

ShipStation Carrier Services is automatically part of your ShipStation account, but you'll need to provide billing information before you can create any labels or add insurance to your shipments. Funds for ShipStation Carrier Services are managed directly in ShipStation.

You'll be prompted to add your billing information the first time you attempt to create a label, or you can follow the steps below to add the billing information in advance:

  1. Click the Set up carriers button.

This billing method will apply funds to the one balance used to purchase labels through ShipStation Carrier Services. Charges to add funds to the balance will appear on your credit card reports with the description “STAMPS."

Shipping GlobalPost via a Stamps.com Account

If you have connected your Stamps.com account to ShipStation and would like to use GlobalPost services via Stamps.com instead of ShipStation Carriers, you can do so if your Stamps.com account has been enabled for GlobalPost services.

If you are part of the SmartSaver program or if you ship using the GlobalPost Plus services, you must create GlobalPost labels using the GlobalPost services available from your Stamps.com integration.

Enable GlobalPost

GlobalPost services must first be enabled on your Stamps.com account before they will be available to you in ShipStation. To request your account be enabled for GlobalPost services, fill in the GlobalPost Request form.

Ship 5+ international shipments a day?

If you expect to ship more than 5 GlobalPost shipments per day, inquire about GlobalPost SmartSaver shipping options for even bigger discounts! If you qualify, a GlobalPost representative will contact you with further details.

After GlobalPost has been enabled on your Stamps account, do the following to access the GlobalPost services in ShipStation:

  1. Select or create an international order.

  2. Choose an existing Stamps.com international service from the Service drop-down (you will not yet see the GlobalPost services in this list).

  3. Click Create Label to bring up the cost summary screen.

Once you have completed the above steps, your GlobalPost services will then be available alongside your other Stamps.com international shipping services. It can take from 5-10 minutes for the services to appear in ShipStation once you've gone through the above steps.

All GlobalPost-enabled accounts will have access to GlobalPost Economy International, GlobalPost Standard International, and GlobalPost Plus services. If you have also been onboarded for the SmartSaver Program, you will see the corresponding GlobalPost SmartSaver services, which you will use when creating labels for shipments that will be consolidated into a container (see the SmartSaver section for more details).

Using Endicia or Quickship with GlobalPost

  • Endicia: If you would like to use GlobalPost with your Endicia account, connect your Endicia account to ShipStation as a Stamps.com account. The username should be your Endicia account number and the password will be your Endicia account password.

  • Quickship: If you use QuickShip in ShipStation Legacy, disable it for this step. You must see the Cost Summary screen to add the GlobalPost services.

GlobalPost Plus

GlobalPost Plus is an international DDP service for shipments from the United States to Canada, Mexico, and the United Kingdom. DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) means you, rather than the recipient, will pay for any duties and taxes assessed by the customs authority of the receiving country. These fees will be billed back to your account after the shipment has been processed through the country's customs office.

GlobalPost Plus Service Details:

  • Maximum weight: 66lbs

  • Available ship to countries: Canada, Mexico, United Kingdom

  • Tracking: Door to door

  • Maximum value of goods: varies by country (up to $2500)

  • Default insurance coverage: up to $200 against loss or damage + shipping costs

  • Duties & taxes: paid by shipper

Currently, you must request GlobalPost Plus be enabled on your Stamps.com account to have access to it in ShipStation. However, this service will soon be available automatically to all Stamps.com accounts.

GlobalPost SmartSaver

GlobalPost SmartSaver allows you to realize even more savings by bundling all of your individual packages into a larger container package, which you then send to the GlobalPost sorting facility. When the GlobalPost sorting facility receives the shipment, they'll sort the individual shipments by country and then send them on their way to the final destination.

GlobalPost SmartSaver services are available for accounts that ship more than 5 packages per day (on average) with GlobalPost. To apply, either call 1-888-899-1255 to speak to a GlobalPost team member or fill in the online Contact Us form to be contacted by the sales team. If filling in the form, include "SmartSaver Inquiry" in the Subject field, then choose General Questions for the Inquiry Type and ShipStation as your Shipping Platform.

SmartSaver offers three options:

  • SmartSaver Pickup™ – GlobalPost will pick up your consolidated shipments from your warehouse and transport them to the closest processing facility the same day.

  • SmartSaver Bundle™ – Consolidate your individual shipments into one or more large containers and ship them to the GlobalPost processing facility with a container shipping label, provided at no additional cost.

  • SmartSaver Drop-off – Use your own carrier to ship your consolidated shipments to the GlobalPost processing facility. This option offers the deepest discounts!

Each option differs slightly, so you'll work with a GlobalPost representative to determine the right solution for your business. They will then provide you the detailed instructions on how to create the right labels for the individual shipments and container box.

In ShipStation, you'll always create the individual shipment labels with one of the SmartSaver services.

GlobalPost Shipping Tools

GlobalPost also provides some useful tools to assist in your international shipping: The HS Classification Tool (or Harmonization Code Lookup) and the Duties & Taxes Calculator.

The Harmonization Code Lookup tool helps you find the appropriate harmonization codes for your customs declarations. We recommend always including the correct harmonization codes on your customs declarations to ensure the destination country's customs authority can process your shipment in the quickest way possible.

To use the lookup tool, enter a simple item description in the search field and click the Find Code button. You'll then be prompted to drill down on the details of your item with a series of multiple-choice questions until the right code has been identified.

GP_HSCodeTool.png

You can then enter the code into the Harmonization Code field for the order in ShipStation.

V3_ODET_CustomsDeclarations_HarmonizationCode_MRK.png

If you have a product catalog in ShipStation, you can enter the product's harmonization code into the product details and ShipStation will automatically add it to the customs declaration for every order that contains that product.

Product Details Customs tab.

The Duties & Taxes Calculator can help you estimate how much duties and taxes can be expected when shipping certain types of goods (based on your HS code) to certain types of countries. This can be very helpful when using GlobalPost Plus, which is a Delivered Duties Paid (DDP) service. Know in advance how much you’ll be charged for duties & taxes so you can budget appropriately.

File a Claim for Loss or Damage

GlobalPost Standard shipments include up to $100 loss / damage protection. GlobalPost Plus shipments include up to $200 in loss / damage protection. Should any of your GlobalPost Standard or Plus shipments become lost or damaged in transit, you can file a claim within 90 days of the shipment date.

Requirements for filing a claim:

  • All claims must be filed by the shipper, not the recipient.

  • Claims for damage can be submitted at any time. Claims for lost packages cannot be submitted until 30 days after the shipment date.

  2. Fill in the online form:

    • You will need a good contact email, the shipment tracking number and shipment date, and claim amount.

  3. Send the form when all fields have been completed.

    • If you submit a partially completed form, GlobalPost will not be able to process your claim and will notify you via email. Complete any missing information on your previously-submitted claim form and resubmit it, or complete a new claim.

If you feel your claim was incorrectly denied, please submit a new claim with new or updated information.

Notes About GlobalPost in ShipStation

  • The label that you'll print from ShipStation for single-piece GlobalPost shipments will be a domestic USPS shipping label.

This label is used to ship the package to a GlobalPost sorting facility, where GlobalPost will relabel the package and include any necessary documents for international shipping.

  • You will not print customs forms in ShipStation.

ShipStation will submit the customs information electronically and GlobalPost will include the necessary customs documents when the package is relabeled at their sorting facility.

  • GlobalPost Standard and Plus shipments include default loss/damage coverage. Economy shipments do not include any default loss/damage coverage.

Additional Carrier Insurance is not available for GlobalPost shipments. However, you can add Shipsurance to GlobalPost shipments, with a maximum declared value of $400.

  • GlobalPost Economy and GlobalPost Standard shipments can be included on USPS SCAN or End of Day forms.

GlobalPost SmartSaver shipments should not be included in USPS SCAN forms.

  • To use the Rolls package type in ShipStation, select the standard Package option. Do not include dimensions for Rolls, use the weight only.

  • There are two tracking numbers associated with a GlobalPost shipment:

    1. The GlobalPost tracking number.

ShipStation sends this tracking number to your customer and selling channel during the marketplace notification processes. For Economy shipments, packages are tracked only to the destination country. For Standard and Smartsaver shipments, packages are tracked to the destination address.

    2. The tracking number on the actual label generated in ShipStation.

This tracking number can only be used to track the movement from your Ship From Location to the GlobalPost sorting facility. It is not shared with your customer or selling channel.
