Migrate to New BigCommerce Integration

The new BigCommerce integration with ShipStation supports BigCommerce’s new multi-storefront feature and other improvements. To use the new integration, you'll set your old store to inactive and create a new store connection. This guide will help you plan your migration process so you don't miss any orders or ship orders more than once.

Important BigCommerce Integration Changes

The new BigCommerce Integration includes the  following features:

  • Multi-Storefront Compatible

  • Gift Orders

  • Custom Order Statuses

  • Track Refunded Line Items

  • Larger Order Import Capacity

  • Variant Product Images

Do I Need to Migrate?

If you received a notification from ShipStation about migrating to the new connection, that means your account has been identified as needing to migrate.

Migration Methods

You can migrate your store by following the steps in this guide or reconfiguring your BigCommerce store.

The new connection for your BigCommerce store will appear like this in your list of stores:

Plan Your Migration

Before starting your migration, we recommend preparing your ShipStation account to avoid disrupting your normal flow:

  • If you received the notification from ShipStation that your account is ready to migrate, you can migrate by reconfiguring your BigCommerce connection or following the migration instructions in this guide.

  • Any open orders in BigCommerce will import into the new BigCommerce store in ShipStation once you have completed the connection.

If any of these orders previously imported into your old store and you made changes to them in ShipStation, you will need to make those changes again. To avoid this scenario, we recommend migrating to the new store after you have closed all shipments for the day and shipment notifications have been sent.

  • The store settings in your new BigCommerce store will be set at their default settings. Take note of the store settings in your old store first, like Branding, Email and Packing Slip Templates, the Branded Returns Portal, etc., so you can update your new store connection to match.

  • If you use ShipStation's recommended method to not import duplicate orders from eBay and Amazon, please make sure to adjust your automation rule criteria to match the new BigCommerce connection before you migrate. Here is what the rule should look like:

    SET_AUTO_BigCommerce-DuplicateOrders_DNI.png

Be sure to select Marketplace as your first criteria and choose the BigCommerce v3 option.

  • If you are using ShipStation webhooks, please follow these instructions to update the webhooks to the correct new store. You may also need to unsubscribe from the webhooks and re-subscribe with the correct Store ID.

  • If you are using ShipStation’s Open API, please note you will need to update the Store ID in the calls you are making to the new store ID number post-migration.

Post Migration Checklist

With your new BigCommerce store connected, we recommend checking the following settings to help quickly resume normal operations.

  • Automation rules: Make sure that any automation rule criterion that references your old BigCommerce store is set to the new BigCommerce store.

  • Store Settings: Update any store settings that need to be customized for BigCommerce (like Branding, Email Templates, or the Branded Returns Portal).

  • You can reactivate your prior BigCommerce connection for reporting purposes. However, we recommend that you do not use the legacy BigCommerce connection to import new orders. Set the legacy BigCommerce connection back to inactive after running reports.

Where's my Legacy BigCommerce Store?

Check the box below the list of connected stores to show inactive stores. All your inactive stores will display so you can view your store settings and set them correctly in your new BigCommerce store.
