Explains how to automatically set FedEx Ground® or Home Delivery® service based on the recipient address type.
FedEx will charge an additional surcharge for FedEx Ground® shipments that are delivered to a residential address, or FedEx Home Delivery® shipments that are delivered to a commercial address. To avoid these surcharge, we recommend you use the appropriate FedEx service based on address verification.
ShipStation will automatically verify shipping addresses as Residential or Commercial, and you can use that verification as criteria to update your FedEx orders to the appropriate service.
Below are some examples of automation rules that set the FedEx service based on address verification:
This rule will locate any orders set to use FedEx as the carrier and have a ship to address that was verified as Residential, and set the shipping service / package type to FedEx Home Delivery® / Package.
Set the criteria so the Residential / Commercial indicator includes Residential and the Carriers includes FedEx.
If you're only using FedEx Ground® and FedEx Home Delivery® for your shipments, this rule will help avoid surcharges associated with using FedEx Ground® for residential shipments. If you're using FedEx's expedited services as well, you may need to add some additional criteria.
This rule will locate any orders set to use FedEx Home Delivery® via service mappings that also have a ship to address that is verified as Commercial, and set the shipping service / package type to FedEx Ground® / Package.
Requires Service Mapping!
This rule uses the Request Service (Mapped) criteria, which requires you to use Service Mapping for the store's requested services.
This rule would locate orders already using FedEx Home Delivery® but have a commercial ship to address, and update the shipping service to the appropriate FedEx Ground® service. Since this rule includes the Requested Service (Mapped) criteria, it would skip over orders where the customer requested an expedited shipping service.
