SmartFill helps you save time by configuring your shipment weight and dimensions automatically. No need to build automation rules or presets or analyze data from thousands of shipments, SmartFill will analyze previous shipment data for you and learn as you make changes to your shipments.
How does SmartFill work? As new orders import, SmartFill compares the new order items to the two most recent shipments for the exact same combination of items. If those shipments have identical weight and dimensions, SmartFill will add those details to the new order. SmartFill will not apply weight or dimensions to an order if the two previous shipments do not have identical weight and dimensions so it can learn as you make changes to your shipments.
For example a Home Goods store frequently gets orders for a single wool blanket, and that blanket is always shipped in a 4 X 4 X 4 inch box that weighs 10 ounces. With SmartFill enabled that store owner would not need to manually update the weight or dimensions on new orders for a single wool blanket, SmartFill will add this information for them.
Depending on your shipping workflow you may only need SmartFill to add some information to your orders. Currently all SmartFill functions are enabled by default. If needed you can toggle the switch to the left to disable the following SmartFill settings:
-
MarketPlace Override - if this setting is disabled ShipStation will display the order weight sent from your Marketplace.
-
Weight - if this setting is disabled SmartFill will not adjust order weight value.
-
Package - if this setting is disabled SmartFill will not adjust the Package type.
-
Dimensions - if this setting is disabled SmartFill will not adjust order dimensions.
-
SmartFill uses the weight and dimensions from the two most recently purchased labels for matching shipments. This includes batched shipments but does not include orders marked as shipped or sent to fulfillment.
-
Shipment Activity: if SmartFill updates an order there will be an entry in the Shipment Activity noting what type of information was added.
-
Weights from the Marketplace: If your Marketplace sends an order weight value, by default SmartFill will overwrite the marketplace weight. If you want to use your Marketplace order weight you can disable the Enable Marketplace Override setting.
-
Carrier Specific Packaging Not Supported: Currently SmartFill only supports ShipStation Default and Custom package types at this time.
-
SmartFill Applies after Auto-Split and before all other types of automation. This means that any product defaults, service mappings or automation rules will overwrite SmartFill. This is intentional to ensure SmartFill does not overwrite any automation rules, defaults, or service mapping you have previously set up.
-
Automation Rules to Adjust Order Weight: if you have a rule to adjust order weight that will apply to the weight SmartFill has configured for your shipment. This can cause the weight to be inconsistent with past labels you’ve printed.
-
SmartFill does not apply dimensions to an order if the two most recent shipment dimensions are 0”x0”x0”.
