For merchants who can create and edit custom packing slips, you can hide or remove Item Options (or Shopify’s Note Attributes), like size or color, from appearing on the packing slips. Removing Item Options provides valuable space, particularly on smaller 4" x 6" packing slips.
Orders that import into ShipStation with Item Options, by default, will show that additional information.
Where do I find Item Options?
These descriptions will appear in two places. In an order's Shipment Details, the Item Options appear under the Description.
On a packing slip, they also appear under the Description, as seen in this Print Preview.
Because this process may not be intuitive for all customers, we guide you through it here. Additionally, we have some suggested steps on how to apply this option as the default template.
To remove Item Options, follow these steps to edit the packing slip code:
-
Click the Actions menu
next to the packing slip to adjust, then click Copy.
This will open the Update Packing Slip Template pop-up.
-
Open the Order Items section of the Update Packing Slip Template pop-up.
You may need to collapse the Order Header or the Order Items Header section to see it.
Name Your Packing Slip Template
While you are editing in the Packing Slip Template, we recommend re-naming this template to include (NO ITEM DESCRIPTIONS). This name aids in setting up store-specific packing slips or automation rules (as described below).
-
Delete
<br>[Item Options]from line 3 of your packing slip's code that reads,<td>[Item Title]<br>[Item Options]</td>to then read,
<td>[Item Title]</td> -
Click Save.
You can now check the Print Preview and see that Item Options (or Shopify’s Note Attributes) no longer show on the packing slip.
If you manage multiple stores or need a specific template based on order criteria, follow these steps to apply an automation rule.
