Explains ShipStation carriers program, how to set up billing, and available features & services.

ShipStation Carrier Services gives you one balance of funds to purchase labels from ShipStation's included carriers in the U.S. Instead of purchasing labels and managing payments for multiple postal accounts, use just one balance for all labels.

Just as one wallet holds multiple credit cards, ShipStation contains multiple included carriers, with funds managed in a single postage account. You'll also receive our select preferred rates for services from the included carriers. There’s no need to create individual accounts for each carrier you might wish to use. With ShipStation, just set up your preferred billing method and start purchasing labels.

When you first set up your ShipStation account, you will be prompted to enter your billing information when you create your first label. This will automatically set up your account with the carriers listed below.

Set Up Billing for ShipStation Carrier Services

ShipStation Carrier Services is automatically part of your ShipStation account, but you'll need to provide billing information before you can create any labels or add insurance to your shipments. Funds for ShipStation Carrier Services are managed directly in ShipStation.

You'll be prompted to add your billing information the first time you attempt to create a label, or you can follow the steps below to add the billing information in advance:

  1. Click the Set up carriers button.

  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to enter your billing details, agree to the terms and conditions, and finish the setup.

    If you have your own Stamps.com account that you have not yet connected to ShipStation, you can select the option to use your own Stamps.com account during the setup process. In this case, you would not need to enter additional billing details.

This billing method will apply funds to the one balance used to purchase labels through ShipStation Carrier Services. Charges to add funds to the balance will appear on your credit card reports with the description “STAMPS."

Enable Auto-Funding For a Seamless Experience

We recommend using auto-funding to ensure the balance never falls below a set threshold amount.

Update Payment Method

To change the payment method and billing address for your ShipStation Carrier Services account:

  1. Click the action menu next to the payment method that you need to update and select Update payment method.

  2. Enter your billing details and click Save changes.

Additional Features for ShipStation Carrier Services

ShipStation Carrier Services allows for the following additional features:

  • Discounted Rates

    All carriers available with ShipStation Carrier Services include access to pre-negotiated discounted rates, including cubic pricing for USPS shipments!

  • Scheduled Pickups

    After creating USPS, DHL Express, or UPS shipping labels in ShipStation, you can schedule a pickup for the next day through the Shipments tab.

    If you need to schedule regular pickups for DHL Express, email support@shipstation.com and our team will work with DHL Express to arrange recurring pickups for you.

  • Prepaid Postage

    All shipments created using ShipStation Carrier Services are prepaid using the account balance.

    Add Funds to your Account Balance

    Add funds to your account balance directly in ShipStation. Set up auto-funding so you always have funds available to create shipping labels.

The carrier integration can be used to create domestic shipping labels.

ShipStation will submit international customs information electronically to the carrier.

The carrier integration can be used to create domestic return labels.

ShipStation will display estimated shipping rates for the carrier based on the connected account information and shipment details.

Additional carrier insurance can be purchased through ShipStation.

Shipping labels created for this carrier will include a tracking number that can be used to view the shipment status on the carrier's tracking website. Tracking may not be available for all shipping services.

When tracking is available, ShipStation will automatically track the shipment status and update the tracking status on the Shipments tab. This feature allows for other advanced ShipStation features like delayed notifications and the Branded Tracking Page.

ShipStation can perform an End of Day process for the carrier and submits the shipment information electronically. The End of Day process can be mandatory or optional, based on the carrier and your account with them. A printable file may or may not be available, see the End of Day (PDF).

The carrier integration can be used to create multi-package shipments, where multiple individual packages are linked together into a single shipment record with a master tracking number.

Notes about ShipStation Carrier Services

  • Post-shipping adjustments may occur with USPS and UPS from ShipStation services if actual package details (weight and dimensions) do not match the package details used to print the label. These adjustments are automatically deducted from your ShipStation Carrier Services account balance.

    • USPS uses an Automated Package Verification system to ensure the rate you pay for the label matches the service and rate requirements.

    • UPS uses dimensional weight (DIM), which requires package dimensions in addition to the weight to calculate properly. If you do not include package dimensions, UPS may apply an adjustment to your balance for the difference in the label cost after the shipment has been delivered.

    To view any adjustments that have been applied to your account, log into your Stamps.com account, go to the Reports > Balances page and set the Report Type to Transactions.

  • When you void a label created with ShipStation Carrier Services, the cost of the label is credited back to your ShipStation balance. Most funds for voided labels are credited back the same day but can take up to 21 business days to process.

  • When you cancel your ShipStation account with any remaining balance, you will automatically receive a refund within 30 business days.

  • ShipStation handles all billing requests for ShipStation from ShipStation. To submit a request about billing, contact ShipStation's Support Team.

  • To manage which services you want to see from Carrier Services when configuring a shipment, click # services next to the carrier.

    In the pop-up window, uncheck any services you want to hide, then click Save.

Dimensional weight, also known as volumetric weight, is a pricing technique for commercial transport (including courier and postal services) of larger packages with a lighter weight. DIM weight uses an estimated weight calculated from the length, width, and height of a package divided by a specific divisor determined by the carrier.

If DIM weight applies to your package, the carrier will compare the DIM weight and actual weight and charge the higher of the two for the label.
